The ground spike screws right into the light or the optional battery holder to allow "staking" the light in the ground (garden or pathway) or in the beach to keep it exactly where you want it to stay. Honestly, you can use 1/4" x 20 threaded rod from the hardware store too. We just offer these to save you the trip.
