HOW DOES THE LIGHT SENSOR WORK?

This image shows the GLOWB light sensor in the on and the off positions.

When the slider switch covers over the light sensor bulb (above left) the lights can turn on regardless of surrounding light. When the slider switch uncovers the bulb (above right) it is active, so the lights will turn off in daylight.

WHAT DOES THE 5 HOUR TIMER DO?

When the timer is active, it automatically switches the lights off 5 hours after…

  • You use the remote to turn the lights on
  • You use the manual button to turn the lights on
  • The light sensor turns the lights on
  • The timer is activated, regardless of how long the light have been on.

When active, the 5 hour timer stays active until power is removed. In other words, if you turn the light off using the buttons then the timer will keep its settings. If you remove power to the light then the 5 hour timer will reset itself to the default inactive state.

HOW DO I ACTIVATE THE 5 HOUR TIMER?

The timer is off by default when you apply power to your light. You can activate the timer by holding down the green button (manual or wireless) for over three seconds.  You will know that it toggles when you see the lights start flashing. If the lights flash two times then the timer is OFF.   If the lights flash 5 times then the 5 hour timer is active. It’s that simple!  Note: If power is interrupted then the timer will no longer be active!

HOW DO I USE TIMER WITH THE LIGHT SENSOR?

The timer will work with the light sensor. The light sensor can turn your lights on automatically when it gets dark and then the 5 hour timer will prevent the lights from running all night long.  This will save energy and battery life. Note: Your brightness  and effects settings are saved when you use the light sensor to switch your lights on and off.  The steps to turn on both sensor and timer are …

  1. Turn on your light
  2. Activate the 5 hour timer
  3. Activate (uncover) the light sensor

… then your light will always switch on when it gets dark and switch off 5 hours after they were switched on. If you turn your light off with the buttons your light will stay off even if the light sensor is active.

WHAT IS THE DEFAULT BRIGHTNESS?

The LED brightness is set to 10% by default when you connect power to the light.  The lowest setting does not seem bright in daylight, but 10% is usually satisfactory and it saves energy and battery life. If you prefer the lights to be brighter, you can adjust the brightness as shown below...

CAN I SET THE BRIGHTNESS WITH THE MANUAL BUTTON?

Two 2 short presses of the manual button (within about 1 second) will brighten the lights one level until they reach 100% brightness.  If the lights are already at 100% brightness then two short presses change the brightness back to 10%.

HOW DO I ADJUST BRIGHTNESS WITH THE CONTROLLER?

Two small buttons on the wireless controller can be used to set the brightness. Pressing the button on the right sets the light to the next level brighter until the light reaches 100%. The button on the left sets the light to the next lower brightness setting until the brightness reaches 10%.

There are four brightness levels, 10%, 25%, 60%, and 100%.   If power is interrupted then the lights return to the default setting of 10%.

WILL ONE CONTROLLER WORK ON SEVERAL LIGHTS?

Yes!  One controller works on all lights within range. The range is about 90 feet in clear sight. However, tree limbs, walls, moisture, etc. can all affect range. It works on the same principle as a garage door opener.  Every GLOWB light comes with its own controller that works on all lights.

HOW LONG WILL MY BATTERIES LAST?

The standard AC outlet is the best power source for your Glowb Light, but outlets aren't always available.  So, we created a battery option for those occasions. Battery life depends on many factors, such as:

  • The type and brand of batteries used
  • How much life is left in each battery
  • The brightness setting of your Glowb
  • Which effect is being used

Brand new batteries should last for about 150 hours using the steady-on light effect and 10% brightness.  For example, if you use the lights 5 hours per night at 10% brightness then the batteries should last for about a month.

Tip: Use an effect like twinkle or pulse to extend battery life.

IS A GLOWB LIGHT WATERPROOF?

Do not submerge your Glowb Light.  It is not waterproof.   However, it is very weather resistant. We engineered Glowbs to withstand the normal range of temperatures and weather in North America. Glowb Lights have an IP rating of IP-54 (IP = Ingress Protection Standards). This means they are protected against harmful deposits of dust and also from water sprayed from all directions.

HOW DO I HANG MY GLOWB LIGHT IN A TREE?

  • Don’t climb or use a ladder if you can just toss a line over a limb.
  • Don’t tie a heavy or sharp item to your throw line. This is dangerous.
  • Use a tennis ball or a bean bag. Those tennis balls that you hang from the garage ceiling to help park the car in the right spot are great!
  • It usually helps to use a small line to get over the limb, then use the small line to pull the large line or extension cord over the limb. Some people use sling shots and fishing poles to throw their lines. If you find a good method, let us know and we’ll share your idea with everyone!
